Comox – Open/Enclosed Mall – Comox Mall
The major renovation and re-merchandising program at Comox Mall in Comox, a community on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, is expected to be completed by late 2017. Comox Mall is a 115,000-square foot enclosed mall at Port Augusta St. at Comox Ave. in an area surrounded by residential and commercial developments and is just south of the Comox Marina and seaplane terminal. The mall is anchored by a 40,600 square foot Loblaws operating as John’s Independent Grocer along with a 6830 square foot Rexall pharmacy, a 5750 square foot BC Liquor store, a CIBC and a new 10,000 square foot Dollarama that is opening in the Fall. A part of the project has included the demolition of the mall’s center portion to create additional parking and to accommodate the new Dollarama store. In addition, a partial strip of outdoor retail will be created between CIBC and Rexall and a freestanding pad building is being constructed on the South portion of the parking lot, fronting Comox Ave. The pad building is scheduled for early November possession. Individual units are ranging from 1131 to 1230 square feet and available mall units are from 885 square feet up to 5000 square feet. Currently there are spaces available for a coffee cafe, footwear, a cellular kiosk, ladies wear, unisex jeans/casual wear and a medical clinic. As part of the re-merchandising program there is a restaurant/pub opportunity that includes a 1400 square foot patio with views of the Comox harbour and mountains. Comox Valley is reported to be one of the top fastest growing residential districts in the province with an influx of new residents from Vancouver, Victoria and Alberta. The area is experiencing an influx of younger families. David Coon at Comox City Centre Retail Ltd. is handling the leasing.
