Next Stop, Edmonton Airport……..

In early April, ECCO Shoes Canada introduced its Spring footwear and bags lineup at its new store on St. Catherine St West in downtown Montreal. The 55-year old Danish comfort and casual footwear company displayed its ECCO Crepetray, a high-tech twist on a classic desert boot style, its BIOM Hybrid 3 that encourages a more natural motion for comfort and stability, its line of Danish design bags and more.  The company also hinted at a new pilot project in Amsterdam that is exploring 3D scanning and 3D printing for customized footwear.   The innovative collection of comfort and stylish formal, casual, kids, sport and golf styles for men and women is sold in specialty and department stores as well as in over 3000 stores worldwide.  ECCO entered that Canadian market in the mid-1990s and currently operates over 30 stand-alone ECCO stores in the medium to better price category and expansion continues.  In early May, the chain opens a store in the new Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport. In addition, locations are also planned to open this year in Pacific Centre, Richmond Centre, Oakridge Centre and Park Royal Shopping Centre in the greater Vancouver area along with Scarborough Town Centre in the Toronto area.  David Bishop at Northwest Atlantic (Canada) Inc. is responsible for the chain’s site selection in Canada and points out that target areas for additional expansion have yet to be defined. Traditionally, ECCO targets mall locations in the 900 to 1200 square foot range.  At least 20 feet of frontage is required.
