St. John’s, NFLD – Enclosed Mall – Avalon Mall

Marcel Elliott, Senior Leasing Manager & Regional Property Manager with Crombie REIT, reports that he is now actively leasing new space within Avalon Mall in St. John's in Newfoundland.  The multi-phase project effectively started in 2017 with an interior refresh under the design by WZMH Architects.   And the anticipated opening of a four level, 800-vehicle parking garage is scheduled to open in the Fall.  Also, in late February, Cineplex announced its plans to open a 30,000 square foot The Rec Room dining and entertainment complex at the north side of Avalon Mall in early 2019.  Located adjacent to Cineplex’s Scotiabank Theatre St. John’s, it is the company’s seventh Rec Room in Canada and the first in Atlantic Canada.   With the departure of Sears earlier in January, Avalon Mall will capitalize on the ability to downsize its footprint in one direction while expanding in another.  The final result will provide 17,000 square feet of incremental space with improved access and visibility to enhanced merchandise mix and offer optimal configuration using a ‘race track’ to connect the lower level with the new addition.   Discussions are well underway with multiple 25,000 square foot and larger uses for the spaces.  Elliott adds that construction will start immediately, and he will be announcing 2019 and 2020 openings shortly.  Crombie REIT is also redeveloping and currently leasing Kenmount Business Centre and Woodgate Plaza which were acquired in 2013.   Both properties are adjacent to Avalon Mall and will be linked together in 2018 through pedestrian/vehicular bridges and a new Kenmount Rd. connector.
