Enters to Pet Business…..
Last week, Canadian Tire Corp. announced a partnership with Petco, the San Diego, California-based pet specialty retailer that marks Canadian Tire’s entry into the premium pet category. Under the terms of the agreement, Canadian Tire will exclusively offer a variety of premium pet products, including Petco's assortment of food, treats and accessories, both in Canadian Tire stores and online. Beginning in August, Petco's WholeHearted brand, a premium grain-free pet food line, will be in stores and online and additional Petco products, including accessories, will be added starting in September. "We know how important pets are to Canadian families, so we're thrilled to bring Petco's offerings to Canadian Tire, where 65 percent of our customers are pet parents,” said Greg Hicks, President, Canadian Tire Retail. “Petco's deep expertise in pet products, combined with Canadian Tire's extensive reach in a thriving pet market is a powerful combination." Currently, over half of the households in Canada include pets and according to recent reports from IBIS World, the pet store industry in Canada is worth over $2-billion. Four chains, accounting for almost 400 stores and online services, represent about 44.1 percent of the revenue. Introduced in 1965, Petco currently operates over 1500 stores throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico with over 10,000 different pet-related products for dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, etc.
