Calgary – Mixed Use – Verve Q1

On January 1st, men’s barber and hair styling concept, Barber Culture opened its second location in the VERVE Q1 mixed-use tower in the East Village in Calgary. The street level unit is about 1400 square feet. Self-described as, “Not your mother’s salon nor is it your great grand-pappy’s barber shop”, Susan and Dominic Briscoe have been operating at 1520 6th St. SW in Calgary’s Beltline area since early 2016. Barber Culture specializes is haircutting, wet shaves, beard trimming services, designs, etc. and also carries a selection of quality grooming products. Present efforts will be on establishing this latest unit thought in the future the chain anticipates expansion in Calgary’s inner-city area.  Fairfield Commercial handled the lease of retail space between Barber Culture and the VERVE Q1 developer, FRAM + Slokker. Fairfield Commercial’s Michael Kehoe adds that commercial space ranging from 1850 to 2560 square feet are available for immediate possession for retail and restaurant uses.  VERVE Q1 is a 25-storey project that has a six-storey podium featuring about 13,000 square feet of main floor shops and restaurants with 288 condos above.  Located on 6th Ave SE and bordered by The Riff, a pedestrian that cuts through the East Village square area, the 300,000 square foot project has become an integral part of the trendy East Village neighbourhood.  Since 2007 the East Village district has undergone many improvements as part of the Rivers District Revitalization Plan being carried out by Calgary Municipal Land Corp. This includes $357-million of new infrastructure and development programs which CMLC says has helped bring in about $2.7-billon of new development. The revamped Simmons Building, The National Music Centre and the $245 million New Central Library bring life to the East Village.
