The first Bombay Frankies opened in October 2022 in East Gwillimbury/Newmarket community north of Toronto to great response and the second location is scheduled to open in PenEquity Realty Corp’s Kanata Entertainment Centre in Ottawa’s Kanata suburb in June. Two more locations, in Ajax and Mississauga, are presently being signed and are expected to follow later in the year. Bombay Frankies is a quick casual restaurant concept that features a chef-inspired Indian street food menu created around the frankie, a popular burrito-style flatbread wrap, popular in Bombay, now known as Mumbai in India. Newmarket-based restaurant company Eat Up Canada and Celebrity Chef, Restaurateur, and TV Personality Vikram Vij formed a partnership to launch the concept last year. George Heos, Co-Founders of Eat Up Canada, adds that plans call for yet another four units this year, in Etobicoke, Barrhaven in Ottawa, Peterborough and Barrie. “This would be seven for openings for the year,” he said. “We are actively working on sites throughout Ontario and have a strong pipeline of franchisees.” Mike Sabetti at CBRE Ltd. is handling the chain’s site selection the greater Toronto area and Ontario, targeting highly visible units in the 1000 to 1800 square foot range with traffic and convenient access. Heos and Alex Gerzon, Partner and Eat Up Canada Co-Founder, are now exploring opportunities in Western Canada and are seeking great retail brokers to assist in the search, especially in greater Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. “There is tremendous interest in the brand in these markets with the strong awareness of our partner Chef Vikram Vij,” added Heos.
