Supermarket Anchor Returns to the Mall…….
Yesterday, Cominar REIT reported that a 35,000 square foot IGA supermarket will be opening in Centre Rockland in Montreal’s TMR in Spring 2020. The supermarket will locate just below La Cuisine, Rockland’s revamped food destination that opened in Fall 2018. "Adding IGA to the Rockland roster is a natural initiative that lets us offer our customers a renewed experience, enhance our retail mix and continue our redevelopment efforts," said Marie-Andrée Boutin, Executive Vice President, Retail, Development. Rockland, owned and managed by Cominar REIT, is the prime destination in Montreal's shopping landscape. Located at Metropolitan Blvd. and L’Acadie Blvd., it is an enclosed mall of about 675,000 square feet on three level with about 160 boutiques consisting of national and international brands and anchored by The Bay. Rockland Centre originally open in 1959 as an open centre and a Steinberg’s supermarket was an anchor along with Morgan’s and Woolworth’s department stores. Steinberg’s, which later became Metro, left the mall in the late 1990s. Rockland holds the BOMA BEST Platinum (Level 4) as well as the ICI ON RECYCLE Level 3 Gold Performance certification.
