Turns its Attention to TO…….
Originally launched as a digital brand in 2015, New York-based Away is a retail luggage/travel concept that offers a wide range of travel products that are made with premium materials. Targeting a large selection of personal travel styles, the company has added a ‘bricks & mortar’ platform with flagship stores now in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin, Chicago and Boston as well as a location in London in the U.K. that opened last Summer. Dubbed by CNN ‘Instagram’s favorite suitcase’ consumers love the sleek, lightweight, thoughtfully designed and durable travel accessories and are sharing their purchases over multiple social media platforms which has helped the startup’s success. The brand has partnered with Peace Direct, a nonprofit building peace in areas of conflict around the world, therefore by supporting the brand consumers have contributed to their work as well. The lifestyle brand has now turned its attention to the Canadian market with plans to open its first Canadian flagship in Toronto in 2019 or 2020 followed by a location in Vancouver. Arlin Markowitz of CBRE Ltd. in Toronto and Richard Johnson of Odyssey Retail Advisors in New York City are responsible the Canadian roll-out. Away Luggage targets high street location and requires highly visible and high traffic units in the 2000 to 2500 square foot range. In Toronto, the chain is targeting the Yorkville and Queen St. West areas.
