Last week, Loblaw Companies Ltd announced a $2.4 billion(Cdn) investment in 2026 to expand and modernize its national store network and strengthen supply chain operations. As part of this commitment, the company plans to open 70 new stores, including 34 Shoppers Drug Mart/ Pharmaprix pharmacies and care clinics, and 31 hard discount grocery stores under its No Frills and Maxi banners. These additions aim to improve affordability and healthcare access for Canadians. In addition to new openings, Loblaw will renovate 191 existing stores and continue building its 1.2 million square foot automated distribution centre in Caledon in Peel Region in GTA. The 2026 spending marks the second phase of Loblaw’s broader five-year, $10 billion(Cdn) investment plan through 2030. Regionally, investments include four new stores in Eastern Canada, 15 stores in Quebec, 27 stores in Ontario and 24 stores in Western Canada.
