In August 1989, Montreal-entrepreneur Sprio Krallis introduced the first Dagwoods Sandwiches on St Jean Boul in Montreal’s West Island. Once established in the Montreal area, the chain introduced a franchise program in 2006, selling several of the existing units to staff members that had been with the chain. The made-to-order sandwich chain was built on a menu of freshly baked bread, sliced meats and cheese topped with its signature sauces and quality ingredients. In 2017, MTY Food Group Inc. acquired the assets of Dagwoods Sandwiches & Salads that at the time included 20 franchised restaurants and two corporately operated kiosks. Presently, after surviving the pandemic, the chain counts twelve locations in Quebec and potential for controlled growth. Discussions are currently underway in Magog, Laval and Sainte-Sophie in Quebec for 2026 openings along with more in the province for 2027 openings. Dagwoods restaurants will operate in street front and plaza locations that offer visibility, traffic and convenient access. The size necessary is in an 800 to 1400 square foot range. Gabrielle Gervais at MTY Food Group is handling the site selection for the Dagwoods chain.
