Last week, Redberry Restaurants, the Area Director for Canada for the Jersey Mike’s Subs chain of quick service submarine restaurants, celebrated the grand opening of the first of 24 Jersey Mike’s restaurants planned for 2026. The inline unit opened in the Yonge Kingston Centre at 17725 Yonge St at Kingston Rd. in Newmarket, the community about 50-kilometres north of Toronto. Introduced in the Jersey Shore in New Jersey in the mid-1950s, the chain features an authentic East Coast-style sub sandwich with fresh meats and cheeses sliced to order and served on in-store baked bread. In 2024, Mississauga, Ontario-based Redberry Restaurants was named Area Developer for Canada for Jersey Mike’s Subs with plans to open 300 restaurants over ten years. Presently there are about 20 Jersey Mike’s Subs locations in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta and plans are to enter the Manitoba, British Columbia and Quebec markets this year. Atlantic Canada will come online in 2027-2028. Jersey Mike’s locations are generally in the 1200 to 1800 square foot range. Shared pads or outparcels and end caps are preferred with about 20 feet of frontage. Outside seating is strongly preferred.
