The Toronto-based Master Mechanic chain of professional automotive repair and maintenance services shops is preparing to open its first locations in Western Canada. By mid-March, a 5662 square foot five-bay shop opens at 11360 170th St in Edmonton and in late March a 4500 square foot five-bay shop opens at 1525 5th Ave East in Prince Albert in Saskatchewan. In addition, the chain has just announced that a third location, a 3840 square foot six-bay shop at 4215 Edmonton Trail NE in Calgary has been signed to open later in the Fall 2026. Master Mechanic is a 43-year-old chain of locally owned and operated shops in Ontario that provides a wide range of automotive services ranging from complete vehicle repairs to regular maintenance and complex diagnostics. Part of the Averine Partners, a Division of Omnigence, there are about 50 locations operating and the chain expects to have over 60 locations by the end of 2026. Averine’s Real Estate Manager James Jenkins is handling the chain’s expansion and notes that several sites in British Columbia and Alberta are under discussion. About eight locations in Ontario, in Uxbridge, Sturgeon Falls, Sault Ste Marie, Brantford, Oakville, Lindsay and Woodstock, are opening this year. The search for suitable auto service locations continues in the Greater Toronto Area, Eastern Ontario, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, etc. and the company considers conversions and acquisitions. Master Mechanic units are generally in the 3000 to 6000 square foot range, ideally with six to eight garage bay doors. End caps, inline and freestanding sites, as well as build-to-suit and existing spaces are targeted.
