In early 2025, the Richmond, B.C.-based Big Way Hot Pot chain of casual restaurants entered the Ontario-market with its first location at Woodside Square in Scarborough. Later in 2025, a second Ontario location opened in North York and last week, the third location in Ontario opened in a street front plaza on Hwy 7 at McCowan Rd in Markham. The chain is now planning additional expansion across Toronto and key GTA markets, targeting high-traffic retail locations. The chain has retained Sari Samarah at Value Insight Realty to handle its search in Ontario targeting 2500 to 4000 square foot street front, plaza and shopping centre locations. Introduced in early 2022 in Burnaby by Jack Yao and Christiana Luo, the Big Way self-serve hotpot chain features a traditional Chinese hot pot menu with a build-your-own option in which the customer chooses fresh ingredients and a soup base and pays by weight, and the combination is then cooked. Choosing from the over 100 various vegetables, meats and seafoods, noodles, etc. selection, the combinations are endless. In addition to the Ontario restaurants, with an opening in January on Esplanade West in North Vancouver, the chain also operates eight locations in British Columbia and two in the Los Angeles area in California.
