This month, Eat Up Canada Inc., the Newmarket-based restaurant hospitality firm launched in 2021 by George Heos and Alex Gerzon, opens a Pokeworks quick casual restaurants in Canada. The location is at 197 North Queen St at The Queensway, across from Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke. It is the first of a 50-unit Master Franchise agreement that Eat Up Canada signed with the California-based Pokeworks chain. Then in January, Pokeworks restaurants are opening at the Appleby Crossing at 2435 Appleby Line in Burlington and at 51 Marketplace Ave. in the Chapman Mills Marketplace in Barrhaven, the suburban community southwest of Ottawa. And these are followed in March by the fourth Pokeworks at new The Well in downtown Toronto. “We are thrilled to introduce our premium, handcrafted poke bowls to new guests north of the border in partnership with our dedicated franchise partners, George and Alex,” said Pokeworks CEO Regina Cheung. “We are committed to providing unparalleled support to our franchise owners so the Pokeworks brand can stay at the culinary forefront across North America.” Operating since 2015, Pokeworks provides a fresh, healthy, ‘craveable’ take on traditional poke bowls, burritos, salads, and sides. The innovative menu allows for complete personalization and choices include options for gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, keto, nut-free, and raw. Pokeworks currently operates 72 domestic and international locations, with numerous new multi-unit area development agreements in place and twelve new restaurants in development across the U.S. in 2023 alone. Eat Up Canada continues to source high profile locations of about 1500 square feet and Mike Sabetti at CBRE Ltd. handles the chain’s site selection in Ontario. Heos is handling the real estate search in other Canadian markets. Gerzon is handling the franchising in Canada for the chain.
