Last week, Galleria Supermarket opened its new K-Town Branch at 300 Steeles Ave West in Thornhill. Reported to be the largest and most authentic Korean grocery store in the GTA, the former Toys R Us location features fresh produce, a large grocery and household product selection, a bulk food section and a large deli kitchen with recipes prepared daily. There is the Galleria Avenue, a specialty food court and the store also includes twelve fully equipped cooking studios offering cooking classes ranging from Korean cuisine to diverse local dishes. Operating since 2003, Galleria Supermarket is an authentic Korean supermarket chain with now eight stores in the greater Toronto area along with an on-line program. Galleria Supermarket provides a wide selection of fresh produce and grocery items, meats and seafoods, Korean dishes, even imported cookware and appliances. The chain operates both full-size supermarkets with its Korean grocery items, fresh produce and freshly prepared items, catering, etc. as well as its smaller express-style stores. The chain continues to explore opportunities and Matthew Pieszchala and Adam Occhipinti at CBRE Ltd’s Suburban Retail Group are handling the site selection for the Galleria Supermarket and Galleria Express concepts. Depending on the market and the availability, Galleria Supermarket will generally operate in units ranging from 5000 square feet to 15,000 square feet.
