Later this week, Canac, the chain of independent hardware and construction materials stores throughout Quebec, opens its 36th location and first in Laval, at Cure Labelle Blvd at Saint Elzear.  The $35-million project will include a 50,000 square foot main building with a newly designed retail area of about 30,000 square feet and a 12,000 square foot garden centre. The 10.3-acre site will include an outdoor lumber yard and covered warehouse.  Part of the chain’s proposed five-year expansion program, Canac is also opening a location in Magog in Quebec’s Eastern Townships area later this year and in Anjou in eastern Montreal next year, according to the Narcity online news. With a history that dates back to the 1870s, the present-day chain operates over 30 stores in Quebec offering over 25,000 products and personalized service, assisting entrepreneurs and do-it-yourself home builders.
