Jon Smith started Jon Smith Subs with a purchase of two sandwich shops in Palm Beach County in Florida in 1988. The shops, re-established with a commitment to serve the absolute highest quality overstuffed, marinated grilled sirloin steak, real chicken breast and fresh giant deli subs, the chain developed a loyal following. Using the highest quality meats and ingredients, the menu features bread baked fresh every day and made to order fries. Jon Smith Subs launched its franchise program in the mid-2010s and today there are about 13 locations in seven states and about eight more, in Florida and Georgia opening shortly. In 2021, Jon Smith Subs entered the Canadian market with a location in Calgary, part of a franchise agreement for Alberta. The agreement was dissolved and the location closed by mid-2025. CEO Robert Cvetkovski reports that Jon Smith Subs is now seeking master franchisees for all markets in Canada. The chain targets areas with above average daytime and residential density. Highly visible inline, end cap and freestanding units in the 1800 to 2500 square foot range and with at least 25 feet of frontage are targeted. An outdoor seating area and where possible, a drive-thru is preferred.
