In early May, Eat Up Canada will open the first Playa Bowls in Canada in a 1700 square foot at The Well in downtown Toronto. The location will be on Front St., next to Crumbl Cookies. Then in June, a second location will open at 197 North Queen St., across from Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke and Eat Up Canada is planning to open three to five locations this year. Playa Bowls is quick service chain featuring acai superfruit bowl restaurants that feature an extensive and unique menu of over 40 items, including the flavors of acai, pitaya, green and coconut bowls, alongside oatmeal bowls, juices, smoothies, and cold brew, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Playa Bowls was launched in New Jersey about twelve years ago and Eat Up Canada acquired the master franchise rights for Canada in October 2025, with plans for over 160 locations across the country. Based in Toronto, Eat Up Canada, launched by George Heos and Alex Gerzon, is a multi-brand restaurant development company with a portfolio of several fast-growing concepts across multiple segments. With initialplans to open Playa Bowls locations, starting in Ontario, the company targets high profile locations between 1000 to 1500 square feet. The units do not require kitchen exhaust. Taylor Borg with Beauleigh Consulting & Brokerage Group has been retained to handle the site selection.
