In mid-February, the Calgary-based quick service smashburger chain iyycburg opened a location in Calgary’s Marda Loop area. The 1314 square foot street front unit is in the new Madison mixed-use development at 33rd Ave SW at 19th St SW in the city’s trendy shopping and dining district. Introduced in 2020 with a menu of ‘no-fuss’ burgers made in-house from fresh, never frozen, 100 percent Alberta beef, and a large selection of toppings, along with sides, classic milkshakes and bubble tea, iyycburg has fast became a popular destination. The chain now includes seven locations, five of which are in Calgary and one each in Canmore and Banff. The highly visible locations are generally in a 1200 to 1600 square foot range.
With the opening, only one retail unit remains available at the base of the Madison development. A 1297 square foot inline unit with 33rd Ave frontage is available immediately in the six-level development that has about 129 residential units and about 9350 square feet of ground level retail. Over 14,500 people are living within a one-kilometre radius of the site and the average annual income in the area is in excess of $166,900.
