The Fritter Shop is a specialty bakery and dessert shop rooted in traditional Dutch baking, offering a modern twist on classic fritters and pastries. Founded by the Van Rijn family, the business traces its heritage back to an Amsterdam bakery established in 1989 and today continues that legacy in Ontario with a focus on quality and flavourful creativity. Evolving from the family-owned The Dutch Bakery shop that was established in St Thomas in Southwestern Ontario in the early 2000s, Kelvin Van Rijn launched the Fritter Shop in early 2016 selling the unique fritters at local farmer’s markets in the London area. The fritters are made fresh daily using a proprietary dough and rich homemade custard, combined with a variety of gourmet fruit and seasonal fillings that appeal to a wide range of tastes. The shop’s unique approach includes vegetarian and vegan options as well as multiple flavours and distinctive shapes to identify each variety. Now, with a location on Talbot St in St Thomas, Van Rijn is now pursuing growth through franchise opportunities across Canada.
