Earlier this week, Vancouver-based DownLow Chicken Shack enters the Toronto market with a 1300 square foot location at 538 Manning Ave at Harbouin the Palmerston/Little Italy area. Introduced in 2018 by Lindsay Mann and Doug Stephen, DL Chicken is a quick service concept featuring a Nashville-style hot chicken and bold flavours. With various flavour/heat levels ranging from mild to extremely spicy, the chain emphasizes the crispy fried chicken pieces and sandwiches with quality ingredients and house-made sauces. The DL Chicken menu was initially introduced as a weekly special in the partners’ Merchant’s Workshop restaurant in Vancouver. In mid-2018, it was rolled out in a 1000 square foot location on Commercial Dr. In September 2021, DL Chicken opened a second location, a 1650 square foot location on University Blvd in the UBC campus and in mid-2025, the chain added its third location on Cornwall Ave in Vancouver’s Kitsilano area.
