With its recent openings at the Yorkgate Mall in North York and at Creekside Crossing in Mississauga, Church’s Texas Chicken now has 99 locations operating in Canada and another six to eight units, mostly in Ontario and Alberta, are scheduled to open before the end of the year. One of the larger quick service chicken restaurant chains in the world, the franchise chain was introduced in San Antonio in Texas in 1952, specializing in a Southern-style hand-battered fried chicken made in small batches along with other traditional Southern fare including made-from-scratch honey-butter biscuits, and classic home-style sides. Church’s entered the Canadian market in 1979 with a few locations in Vancouver but it wasn’t until 2018 that the chain started to roll-out units in other Canadian markets. Presently there are restaurants in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Rob Manuel, Church’s General Manager, Canada, notes that there remains strong growth potential for the brand in its existing markets, as well as entering new markets including the Ottawa market along with Manitoba and Atlantic Canada. The franchise chain continues to seek experienced QSR investors, and the location can range between 1350 square feet to 2100 square feet in busy commercial and residential nodes and shopping centres. There is a strong preference for end-cap units and drive-thrus where available.
