In late Spring, Hong Kong-based restaurant group Maximal Concepts will open its fine dining Chinese restaurant Mott 32 at the upscale Shangri-La Hotel on University Ave. in downtown Toronto. Located in the former Momofuku Noodle Bar location, it is the second Mott 32 in Canada. The first in North America opened in Vancouver at the Paradox Hotel, then the Trump International Hotel, on West Georgia St, in Spring 2017. Originating in Hong Kong, Mott 32 features a modern approach to traditional Chinese cuisine combined with a vibrant atmosphere along with a high level of attentive service. The restaurant takes its name from 32 Mott St. in New York City, the site of NYC’s first Chinese convenience store in 1851. The first Chinese convenience store marked the beginning of what is now known as a Chinatown in NYC. The restaurant’s cuisine is principally Cantonese with some signature Beijing and Szechuan dishes. The chain has since opened a location in Las Vegas in 2018 and has recently announced plans to open in the new Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley in Phoenix in Arizona later this year. In addition to the North American locations, Mott 32 restaurants are in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Cebu in the Philippines and a location in Dubai.
