Following its recent Alberta openings, international bakery café concept Paris Baguette has just opened its third location in Canada and first in Ontario, a 3600 square foot location in the Rice Group’s Hwy 404 and Davis Dr. centre in Newmarket. Located at 47 Harry Walker Pkwy South, it is the first corporate location in the country. Paris Baguette plans to add to this expansion by opening additional cafés this year, including another corporate café, as well as several more locations in 2024. “We are thrilled to announce our newest Canadian café opening and welcome in guests to enjoy a variety of freshly baked pastries, breads, and cakes as well as artisan coffees, sandwiches, and salads. There’s a tremendous amount of opportunity in the bakery café space,” explained CEO Darren Tipton. “No one else is doing what we are on the same scale, and that’s attracting a lot of attention. It’s a really exciting time for us as we continue to see growth through franchise expansion and year-over-year revenue numbers.” Later in the Fall, a 4700 square foot Paris Baguette is opening in the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton and a 3992 square foot location opens in the RioCan Beacon Hill in Calgary. Back in Ontario, a 2480 square foot location opens at 110 Bloor St West in Toronto in December, quickly followed by a 4797 square foot location in Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga in January. Geoffrey Smith at CBRE Ltd. in Toronto has been retained to handle site selection in Canada. The chain is pursuing both urban and suburban locations and targets end cap and standalone units. The size required is in the 2500 to 3500 square foot range.
Rice Group’s Hwy 404 and Davis Dr. centre is a 300,000 square foot open centre anchored by a 160,000 square foot Costco Wholesale. Over 66,600 people are living within a five-kilometre radius of the site and the average annual household income is in excess of $135,600. Preleasing is underway on the project’s second phase with various unit sizes available. Possession is expected for Fall 2024.
