The latest Mr Puffs Dessert Bar, a 2360 square foot unit, opened in the Stockyards Village in Toronto last week bringing the specialty chain to about 20 locations in Ontario and over 50 locations on Quebec and Ontario. The 19-year-old Laval, Quebec-based concept has experienced strong growth in Ontario after it entered the province with a Cornwall location in September 2021. “We are committed to open another 15 next year in Ontario,” noted Chief Development Officer Tom Bountis, pointing out that all of these locations are franchise stores, no master franchisors. Mr Puffs is a quick service specialty food concept that features the loukoumades, a traditional Greek-style pastry. Loukoumades are bite-sized pastries served hot and fresh and made to order with all natural toppings such as hazelnut chocolate, honey and strawberry glazes. The pastries are made without any dairy products, and are egg-free, peanut-free, soy-free and contain no preservatives. The dough is yeast based and made with simple ingredients such as flour, cinnamon, and water. The chain also expects to open its first location in Western Canada in Calgary in second quarter 2024. Amelie Trudeau with Paracom Realty Corp has been retained to handle the site selection in Ontario. The dessert bars will operate in a wide selection of sites from high traffic street fronts to large format centres in markets of 50,000 people and larger. The size requires is in a 1200 to 1800 square foot range. Mr Puffs provides the franchisees with training support prior to opening as well as after opening to ensure the location is operating satisfactorily.
