Birthplace of Coffee in Toronto…..

Ethiopian coffee importer Milkyas Tefera is preparing to open another Mofer Coffee at 65 Front St East in downtown Toronto.  The 1277 square foot street front unit is at the Front St East and Church St corner and Caitlyn Micuda and Ali Baker at Avison Young Retail Services Group handled the transaction on behalf of the landlord.  Expected to open by early August, it will be the chain’s sixth location.  Introduced in 2017, Mofer Coffee is a chain of specialty coffee shops that feature the premium air-roasted, small batch Ethiopian coffees by the cup and by weight along with a light café menu of pastries. The shops also carry Ethiopian coffee cups and mugs.  Though plans have not been announced, the chain strategic expansion plans include a focus on the mid-town Toronto area and the Forest Hill area.  Matthew Marshall at Jones Lang LaSalle Real Estate Services is handling the site selection for Mofer Coffee and notes that highly visible locations with high pedestrian traffic are required.  The size necessary is in the 1000 to 1500 square foot range.
