In early September, Firehouse Subs opened its 200th restaurant in Canada, marking a major milestone for the firefighter-founded hot sub brand. The new restaurant at West Springs Landing at 85th St and 9th Ave SW in Calgary is especially significant because Alberta was also home to the company’s 100th Canadian restaurant, meaning the brand has doubled its Canadian footprint since 2024. Franchisees Cody Gosling and Mitch Turgeon, who launched the brand in Alberta with their first location in Okotoks, now operate six Firehouse Subs restaurants. To celebrate the 200th location, the company donated $54,389 to Redwood Meadows Fire Station to replace equipment lost in a 2025 fire. The brand plans continued Canadian expansion, seeking experienced, community-minded franchise operators. Founded in 1994 by former firefighters Chris and Robin Sorensen in Jacksonville in Florida, Firehouse Subs has grown into a leading quick-service sandwich brand with about 1,500 locations across North America. Acquired by the Restaurant Brands International group in late 2021, Firehouse Subs continues to expand in Canada and the U.S. The quick service restaurants generally target highly visible locations in the 1600 to 2000 square foot range in prominent in-line and end cap sites.
