Earlier in the week, Manitobah, the Indigenous-rooted brand dedicated to making positive impacts in Indigenous Communities, introduced ‘Rooted’, a global brand campaign showcasing seasonal artist Mikailah Thompson and affirming a commitment to elevating Indigenous artistry. The campaign emboldens all to dream of the infinite possibilities that lie ahead, rooted in the past, while guided by the hope and promise of tomorrow. Thompson, an Afro-Indigenous artist, and entrepreneur currently based in Washington, D.C., seamlessly integrates her nimíipuu heritage into her artwork. Thompson’s contributions to the 2024 Spring collection showcase her dedication to cultural preservation and her distinctive artistic style. Founded in 1997 in Winnipeg by Sean McCormick, Manitobah embarked on a mission to build a global brand that creates positive impacts within Indigenous communities. Manitobah collaborates with Indigenous artists from across North America to craft the world’s warmest and most comfortable footwear, preserving designs used by Indigenous people for thousands of years. Later in the week, Uniqlo opens its 20th store in Canada at CF Fairview Mall in North York.  The 15,000 square foot fast fashion store caters to men, women and children.  In late 2023, the global retailer announced plans to accelerate its growth in North America with new stores across the United States and Canada in 2024. With a focus on eastern and western regions, the brand plans to open over 20 new locations in North America in 2024, doubling its 2023 openings.  The expansion builds upon the momentum the brand initiated in 2022 to reach 200 stores in North America by 2027. Other Spring openings are scheduled for Scarborough Town Centre in Scarborough, Bayshore Shopping Centre in Ottawa and CF Market Mall in Calgary. (Uniglowww.uniqlo.com)……….
