Purdys Chocolatier is expanding into Atlantic Canada, marking a significant milestone in the company’s 119-year history. Founded in 1907 and headquartered in British Columbia, the family-owned Canadian chocolatier will open four new locations across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick this September, extending its presence into two new provinces and strengthening its national footprint. The new locations will be situated at Regent Mall in Fredericton, Champlain Place in Dieppe, Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth, and Halifax Shopping Centre in Halifax. The Dartmouth and Halifax locations will initially operate as pop-up stores, with a permanent Halifax storefront planned for early 2027. The expansion comes in response to years of demand from customers throughout the Maritimes, where Purdys has already built strong connections through its online business and successful fundraising programs. Schools, sports teams, clubs, and community organizations across the region have partnered with the company to raise funds for local initiatives, creating a loyal customer base long before the arrival of physical stores. According to Kriston Dean, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, the move reflects the company’s appreciation for the strong support it has received from Maritime customers and fundraising partners. He noted that opening local shops has been a long-standing goal driven by customer requests and community enthusiasm. Introduced in Vancouver in the early 1900s, Purdys makes a wide range of chocolate gifts from premium ingredients and sustainable cocoa. The company started to expand outside of B.C. with stores in Alberta and by 2004, the chain was in the Ontario market. Presently there are over 90 stores including permanent and seasonal pop-ups. Generally in malls, the stores are in a 600 to 1000 square foot range and Andrew Laudenbach at Oberfeld Snowcap is responsible for the site selection in Canada.
