In early May, MTY Food Group introduced its Café Depot brand to British Columbia with the opening at the City Centre Plaza on Douglas St in Victoria in Vancouver Island. Established in Montreal about 30 years ago, Café Depot presently operates over 50 locations throughout Quebec and about a dozen locations in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Many are in the downtown mixed-use complexes and malls and have become a destination for both the busy grab & go customer as well as those who want to sit and enjoy fine coffees, lattes, espressos, fine loose-leaf teas and iced drinks along with fresh pastries made on-site or the sandwiches, salads and soups that are prepared daily. MTY’s Senior Vice President Tony Clarizio notes that another B.C. location is opening in Kelowna late in the Summer and a search is presently underway in the Victoria area for more sites. The growing chain is targeting 1300 to 1800 square foot street locations, with or without drive-thru options and units in malls or mixed-use projects can range from about 400 to 1000 square feet.
