Massage Heights has just opened a 3200 square foot location Choice Properties REIT’s Shawnessy Village at 70 Shawville Blvd. in southwest Calgary. It is the massage and wellness chain’s seventh location in the Calgary market and eleventh location in Alberta. Massage Heights Canada is an Alberta owned family business founded in 2010 by brothers Will and Zach Carter operating as the Canadian Master Franchisor for the 19-year-old San Antonio, Texas-based company. Offering regular massage therapy, including therapeutic deep tissue massages, Swedish ‘relaxing’ massages, prenatal massages, etc. to its growing consumer base, the growing membership-based concept uses registered massage therapists. The Texas-based company currently numbers over 100 locations across the United States and in a recent interview with Massage Magazine, Massage Heights’s President, CEO Susan Boresow identified Canada as a target growth market along with various U.S. territories and a search is underway for single and multi-unit operators.
Shawnessy Village is a 110,000 square foot open neighbourhood centre anchored by a 52,000 square foot Safeway that has recently undergone a major interior and exterior renovation and a new 6300 square foot Blowers & Grafton restaurant/bar is opening later in October. Traditionally fully leased, Shawnessy Village is in a retail power centre node in the city’s southeast quadrant with over 157,000 people living within a five-kilometre radius. The average household income is more than $144,700 per year and the average age is about 39-years.
