Following the launch of its SubDog, a new footlong hot dog built as a sandwich, Subway Canada is now bringing back its original artisan flatbread to restaurants nationwide. “At Subway, bread is at the heart of what we do, and it’s been incredible to see just how much enthusiasm there is for the return of flatbread,” said Chef John Botelho, Culinary Manager at Subway Canada. “Flatbread adds another option of choice and customization to the Subway experience, and we’re thrilled to welcome it back to restaurants nationwide.” Serving the Canadian market since 1986, Subway Canada has become one of country’s most recognizable quick-service restaurant brands with nearly 3000 locations across the country, known for its freshly made, customizable sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Earlier this year, the chain reported plans for about 45 new restaurants in 2026, alongside over 20 relocations as part of its market optimization strategy. Openings are happening in every province, in rural communities, urban centres and in non-traditional venues. The franchise chain locates in urban retail corridors, open centres, mixed-transit hubs, universities, hospitals and mixed-use projects. The 800 to 1200 square foot range remains its core footprint though flexible in high-demand markets and opportunities. Strong street visibility, signage opportunities and complementary co-tenants are required. Convenient pedestrian and vehicle access is necessary, and the chain continues to expand its drive-thru model across Canada, which introduces more flexible size requirements. All new restaurants and relocations will feature Subway’s latest Fresh Forward 2.0. design package.
