Texas Gets Desserts……….……..Last weekend, Toronto-based D Spot Dessert Café opened its first location in the U.S. Franchise partners, Abdul Khan and Faizan Mirza officially opened the unit in the former McAlister’s Deli location at 3432 E. Hebron Pkwy in the Carrollton in the Dallas, Texas area. The unit brings its full dessert menu, including freshly made Belgian waffles, signature crepes, handcrafted milkshakes and a wide range of globally inspired desserts, along with its savory menu including burgers, pizza, wings, sandwiches, etc. Introduced in Toronto in 2014 and franchising since 2017, the specialty concept that operates over 50 locations in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia with several more under development. Openings are planned in Ontario, British Columbia and Saskatchewan and according to its website, another location in Houston as well as units in Atlanta, Chicago and Nashville are in the works. The D Spot’s full-size format featuring the large dessert menu along with its savory specialty selection generally operates in 2500 to 4500 square foot range. The chain also operates smaller mid-size 1800 to 2500 square foot units and a dessert-only express format in the 1200 to 1700 square foot range.
