In late August, Healthy Planet opens a two-level 12,800 square foot street front location at 2529 Yonge St., north of Eglinton Ave in mid-town Toronto. This will be the chain’s 45th location and a location at 3609 Sheppard Ave East at Birchmount Ave. in Scarborough is also opening shortly. Introduced in the mid-1990’s by Ayoob Dadabhoy as a small kiosk in Toronto, Healthy Planet has evolved into one of the larger health-focused chains featuring a wide selections of health products in the country, carrying vitamins, dietary supplements, sports nutrition, natural beauty and eco-friendly home goods, healthy foods, organic groceries, and pet wellness items. Each store typically has trained staff to help customers with product choices. Where space allows, some of the later stores include the Healthy Planet Kitchen serving fresh, premium quality grab-and-go menu with bowls, wraps, smoothies, etc. made with organic ingredients. The brand continues to source opportunities and Eli Vladimirsky at Value Insight Realty is handling the site selection in Ontario. He notes that a search is presently underway in Oshawa, Whitby, Vaughan, Pickering, Brampton, Entertainment District in Toronto, Orleans and Barrhaven. Healthy Planet is targeting units in the 8,000 to 15,000 square foot range in urban streetfront locations, mixed-use projects, suburban plazas and freestanding pads.
