In mid-June, the Pizzaiolo chain of quick service pizza restaurants opened its latest location at 272 Dundas St East at Hamilton St North in Hamilton’s Waterdown Village. The unit is the chain’s 70th location. Pizzaiolo is a chain of franchised pizzerias in the greater Toronto and surrounding area, with a history that dates back to Montorio in the Abruzzo region of central-southern Italy in the 1940s and then to Toronto in 1967. It was in 2000 that Luigi Petrella opened the first Pizzaiolo location in Toronto and then in 2010, opened its first franchise. Featuring fresh, hand-stretched dough, sauces made in-house along with premium, fresh ingredients, the menu includes authentic pizzas in a choice of gourmet meats, veggie, vegan and personalized. The pizzas are gluten-free and there are also salads, calzones, garlic breads, etc. on the menu. Continued growth is in the plans and the Pizzaiolo locations generally located in high traffic and highly visible street front and plaza locations that offer convenient access. The size is in the 1200 to 1500 square foot range. The family owned and operated chain plans to reach 80 locations soon.
