Last week, the international bakery café concept Paris Baguette opened a 3574 square foot location at 10607 82nd Ave. NW in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona neighbourhood.   Opened by local entrepreneur Eric Chang, it is the first in Edmonton and the second in Canada, and the chain plans to add six more cafes in Canada this year and eight more in 2024.  With about 4000 locations worldwide including about 150 in the United States and the first in Canada that opened in Toronto earlier this year, Paris Baguette features large self-serve displays with an extensive menu of pastries, breads and cakes, as well as its open kitchen that provides a view of Paris Baguette’s bakers and cakers at work. The modern design, with French architectural features, includes a large center island that showcases signature treats like the Strawberry Soft Cream Cake and mochi donuts. Earlier this year, Paris Baguette announced a partnership with Italian coffee company Lavazza to bring its premium coffee beverages to all Paris Baguette bakery cafés.  Later in the Fall, a 4700 square foot Paris Baguette is opening in the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton and a 3992 square foot location opens in the RioCan Beacon Hill in Calgary. Back in Ontario, a 3600 square foot bakery café opens at Davis Dr. and Hwy 404 in Newmarket in early October and a 2480 square foot location opens at 110 Bloor St West in Toronto in December.  It is quickly followed by a 4797 square foot location in Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga in January. And an entry into the British Columbia market, with locations on Alberni St in Vancouver and SOCO master planned community in South Coquitlam, is scheduled for mid-2024.  Looking forward, Paris Baguette is poised for rapid growth in North America, looking to reach or surpass the 1,000-unit mark in the U.S. by 2030. The brand is seeking passionate franchisees who are interested in serving and being present in their communities. Geoffrey Smith at CBRE Ltd. in Toronto has been retained to handle site selection in Canada.  The chain is pursuing both urban and suburban locations and targets end cap and standalone units.   The size required is in the 2500 to 3500 square foot range.
