Following its plan to reach 200 stores in North America by 2027, in late 2023, Japanese casual wear designer and fast-fashion manufacturer and retailer UNIQLO announced plans to accelerate its growth in North America, adding more than 20 new openings, focusing on the eastern and western regions. Currently, the chain is preparing to open stores in Bayshore Shopping Centre in Ottawa and in Scarborough Town Centre in Toronto in the Spring. These openings, its second in Ottawa and ninth in the GTA, brings the chain to over 20 locations in Canada and a search continues. Generally, the Uniqlo stores operate in 15,000 to 40,000 square foot mall and high street locations and Jeff Berkowitz at Aurora Realty Consultants Inc. handles the site selection for the chain’s Canadian expansion. In the United States, the chain has previously announced Spring openings at the Tacoma Mall in Tacoma and in the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, both in Washington state, in the South Shore Plaza in Braintree in Massachusetts, in Providence Place in Providence in Rhode Island and in the Staten Island Mall in Staten Island in New York. Last week, UNIQLO reported that it will be opening its first stores in Texas, in Houston and Dallas, and extend its west coast presence, including new cities, San Diego and Sacramento, this Fall/Winter. In total, the brand will open eleven new stores across Texas and California, a significant portion of the 20-plus new store openings planned for North America in 2024. The new UNIQLO stores opening in Texas later in 2024 include the Memorial City Mall in Houston, First Colony Mall in Sugar Land, Galleria Dallas in Dallas, The Parks Mall at Arlington in South Arlington and in Southbriar Centre in Frisco. In California, stores are scheduled for Arden Fair and at Westfield Galleria at Roseville, both in Sacramento, at Westfield UTC in San Diego. In San Francisco, UNIQLO will open in Westfield Oakridge in the San Jose area and in Los Angeles, stores are confirmed for the Westfield Century City and in the Westfield Fashion Square in the Sherman Oaks area.
