In August, a 6500 square foot Aqua-Tots Swim School opens at 5980 McLaughlin Rd. at Britannia Rd West in the Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga to bring the Arizona-based franchise chain to five locations in Ontario. The franchisees are Lisa and Peter Morlock, who also opened the first Aqua-Tots Swim School in Canada in Mississauga East in mid-2016. In operation since the early 1990s, the Aqua-Tots franchise concept teaches children of all ages, the importance of water safety and encourages a life-long love for swimming through specialized small group instruction, private and semi-private lessons and pool parties. With about 160 franchises operating throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East with more scheduled, the chain is also planning additional growth in Canada. Alexandra Baker, Calvin Holland and Caitlyn Micuda at Avison Young’s Retail Services Group have been retained to source locations across Canada. Presently the chain has a franchise partner seeking another location in the Ottawa region. The focus is on the Orleans area east of Ottawa and Barrhaven market to the southwest. Aqua-Tots open a unit in the Kanata Entertainment Centrum in Kanata in the west Ottawa area in early 2021. Aqua-Tots targets open centres with complimentary retail and industrial zones near affluent residential neighbourhoods. Approximately 6000 to 10,000 square feet with a minimum of twelve-foot ceilings are required. Additionally, at least 40 feet by 70 feet of unobstructed area is required to construct the pool.
