Late last week, the Chinese supermarket chain, Sungiven Foods opened its latest store in the former SuperValu supermarket location at the Greystone Village at 1601 Burnwood Dr. and Greystone Dr. in Burnaby’s Montecito community. The 14,000 square foot unit has taken an anchor position in the neighbourhood centre.  It is the chain’s tenth location in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland region.  Sungiven Foods Canada was established in late 2019 with its fist location in Vancouver’s City Square.  The specialty grocery store chain positions itself as a provider of healthy daily meal items, focusing on the development and retail of its own proprietary branded products which are natural, less processed and with fewer additives.  The chain has continued a steady growth and presently has locations operating in Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey, Richmond, Langley and now, its third location in Burnaby.  The company suggests that its expansion continues with the preferred stores being in an 8,000 to 10,000 square foot range though units as small as 5000 square feet are considered in densely populated urban areas.  Sufficient parking and the typical loading and garbage facilities are necessary.  Sean Ogilvie at Lee & Associates handles the site selection for the chain and notes that presently, locations are required in Coquitlam, Port Moody, South Richmond and Vancouver’s west side.
