Krispy Kreme has signed a franchise development agreement with Original Entrepreneurs LLC to open 33 shops across the New York metropolitan area over the next five years. The planned expansion will cover New York City, Long Island and New Jersey, strengthening the doughnut chain’s presence in one of the largest consumer markets in the United States. Original Entrepreneurs, an established Krispy Kreme franchisee and experienced quick-service restaurant operator, currently operates twelve shops. The company opened its first Krispy Kreme Hot Light Theater shop in Jersey City in 2017 and subsequently expanded throughout New Jersey and into New York. Krispy Kreme CEO Josh Charlesworth said the agreement supports the company’s capital-light franchise growth strategy by partnering with an experienced operator. Original Entrepreneurs principals Karl Halligan and John Mondry expressed confidence in the brand and plans to build on their longstanding relationship. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Krispy Kreme operates in more than 40 countries through company shops, retail partnerships and digital channels.
