In the early 2020’s, Edmonton entrepreneur Dan Cote-Rosen introduced FlatBoy Burgers, an online quick service concept featuring a California-style smashburger made with certified Angus Beef, fresh ingredients and signature sauce. Due to its popularity, in late 2022, FlatBoy Burgers relocated from its ghost kitchen location to a permanent location at the Granite Curling Club in Edmonton and in 2024, a relationship with the owners of Sea Change Taproom in Beaumont and Shiddy’s Rumpus Room in Edmonton saw the FlatBoy Burgers open permanent restaurants in both the Sea Change and Shiddy’s locations. Pete Nguyen, a partner at the Sea Change Brewing and Shiddy’s craft breweries, reported in the online Taproot Edmonton that the partnership was designed to help FlatBoy to develop its brand and grow together. Recently FlatBoy Burgers has reported on social media that it is soon opening in Calgary but timing and a location has not been announced. However, in late 2025, Sea Change Brewing Co. acquired Inner City Brewing on 11th Ave SW in downtown Calgary and is now preparing to reopen under the Sea Change brand.
