Global boba tea brand, CoCo Bubble Tea continues to expand its international presence through a combination of owned operations and franchise partnerships and will be at the National Franchise Show in Toronto later this week offering single-store and multi-store franchise opportunities, as well as store-in-store and co-branding arrangements. An example of its store-in-store concept is the Coco Asian Kitchen/Coco Fresh Tea & Juice that opened in January on King St West in Bowmanville in Ontario. The format was developed for an existing restaurant operator seeking to add an established bubble tea brand to its business. It uses a compact CoCo counter, a curated menu of approximately 20 drink options and side-by-side signage for the restaurant and CoCo. It brings Chinese cuisine, dim sum and CoCo beverages together at one site, illustrating how CoCo can adapt its partnership approach to an operator’s existing business. Known for its authentic milk teas, fruit teas, and seasonal beverages, CoCo Bubble Tea was introduced in Taipei in Taiwan in 1997 and currently has over 5000 locations worldwide, serving the trendy beverages. In 2011, the chain entered the North American market with its first location in New York and in 2014, opened its first store in Canada in Toronto. Presently there are over 120 CoCo Bubble Tea locations in Canada and over 20 in the U.S. The units range in size from a 300 square foot counter to 800 to 1000 square foot locations.
