Introduced in Markham in 2023, Maki Mart is a quick service concept specializing in Japanese-style sushi handrolls designed for convenience and freshness. The concept emphasizes freshly prepared, made-to-order handrolls using premium ingredients, with popular offerings such as spicy salmon, tuna, and fatty toro. Its unique packaging—often separating seaweed from rice—helps maintain freshness and texture for on-the-go consumption. With a focus on compact, takeout-oriented locations, the franchise chain has added locations in North York, Scarborough, north central Toronto and in late March, the fifth Maki Mart opened at 250 Dundas St West in downtown Toronto. In addition, the chain has reported plans for an 800 square foot location at 706 Bloor St West in Toronto’s Koreatown area.
