Last week, Antigonish-based chocolatier Peace by Chocolate opened a 909 square foot corner unit at the Royalty Crossing in Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island, its first location outside of Nova Scotia. Pease by Chocolate is a Canadian chocolatier founded by the Hadhad family after they fled Syria and resettled in Nova Scotia. The family’s original chocolate factory in Damascus was destroyed during the Syrian conflict, but the business was rebuilt in Canada in 2016 with support from the local community. Led by founder and CEO Tareq Hadhad, Peace by Chocolate combines traditional Syrian chocolate-making techniques with Canadian influences, offering premium chocolates featuring nuts, fruit, spices and other distinctive fillings. The brand has developed a strong national presence, with products available through specialty retailers across Canada, while operating its own retail locations in Nova Scotia, in Antigonish, the waterfront area in Halifax and a location that opened earlier in the Spring in the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Peace by Chocolate has introduced a franchising program, suggesting potential for further retail expansion.
