Malvón Empanadas Argentinas, a Spanish-based chain specializing in handmade Argentine empanadas, has entered the Canadian market in the Spring with its first location, a kiosk location on the upper level in the Taste Mrkt section at Scarborough Town Centre in Toronto. In addition, a Malvon/Pretzelmaker combo location has just opened at the Oshawa Centre in Oshawa featuring the traditional Argentine empanadas, a handmade baked or fried turnover, with savoury meat, chicken, cheese and vegetable fillings, alongside sweet options, beverages and other Argentine-inspired specialties. Founded in 2017, the company has grown to more than 100 stores across Spain and Portugal and is now expanding internationally. Richard Niblett at the Lincoln Group is handling the search and notes that while preliminary conversations are underway elsewhere in Canada, the present focus is on the Greater Toronto area. The Malvón Empanadas kiosk locations will operate in about 200 square foot units while the combo locations are in 400 to 600 square foot locations.
