Last week, the first Playa Bowls quick service restaurant in Canada opened at The Well in downtown Toronto. The 1700 square foot street front acai superfruit bowl restaurant features an extensive and unique menu that includes the flavors of acai, pitaya, green and coconut bowls, alongside oatmeal bowls, juices, smoothies, and cold brew, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Playa Bowls was launched in New Jersey about twelve years ago and in late 2025, Eat Up Canada, a multi-brand restaurant development company formed by George Heos and Alex Gerzon, acquired the master franchise rights for Canada. With plans for over 160 locations across the country, Eat Up Canada is initially focusing on the Ontario markets targeting high profile units in the 1000 to 1500 square foot range. In July, the next Playa Bowls is opening at 197 North Queen St, across from Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke discussions are underway for locations in Vaughan, Burlington and Toronto as well as in Halifax in Nova Scotia. Taylor Borg with Beauleigh Consulting & Brokerage Group has been retained to handle the site selection.
