Later this year, specialty South Asian/Middle Eastern grocer Iqbal Foods will open a 26,000 square foot anchor position in the Milton Square at 1195 Maple Ave, just off Hwy 401 in Minton in the GTA. Introduced as a small community grocery store in Thorncliffe Park in Toronto’s East York in the mid-1990s, the specialty halal grocer has become known for its wide selection of spices, and a large variety of local dairy items as well as authentic, high quality South Asian and Middle Eastern products and everyday essentials. Presently there are six Iqbal Food stores across the GTA, from Ajax to Mississauga and the chain is actively seeking expansion opportunities in more communities. With its expansion plans focusing on the GTA, Kitchener, Waterloo and surrounding markets as well Quebec markets, the chain has retained Adam Occhipinti, Matthew Pieszchala, Karlyn Knafo and Nicholas Regan at CBRE’s Suburban Retail Team to handle the search. The chain is seeking anchor positions in the 20,000 to 50,000 square foot range.
