Restaurants Canada, the national, not-for-profit association for Canada’s foodservice industry, supports Prime Minister Carney’s recently proposed Productivity Mega Deduction, calling it a major opportunity for restaurants to invest in productivity, modernization and growth. The measure would allow businesses to immediately deduct the full cost of most qualifying capital investments—including equipment, technology, expansions and renovations—in the year those assets become available for use. This directly reflects Restaurants Canada’s previous recommendations to the federal government for stronger accelerated deductions. The association says rising operating costs and economic uncertainty have caused many restaurants to delay investments, limiting productivity and reducing demand for Canadian suppliers in construction, technology and equipment. Canada’s restaurant industry contributes $125 billion to the economy, represents four percent of GDP, employs 1.2 million people, pays $26 billion in taxes and purchases $43 billion in food and beverages, largely from local suppliers. Restaurants Canada believes the policy could create jobs, strengthen related industries and unlock the sector’s broader economic potential. (Restaurants Canada – www.restaurantscanada.org)…….
