In late March, franchisee Shahid Younis opened a 675 square foot Wetzel’s Pretzels in the former Auntie Anne’s inline location at Square One shopping centre in Mississauga to bring the chain to 21 locations in Canada. The specialty food concept features a menu selection that includes its fresh-made signature hand-rolled fresh soft pretzels as well as its Wetzel Dogs, Wetzel Bitz pretzel bites, fresh lemonade, granita and various beverages. Part of the MTY Food Group, the chain’s goal is to open ten or more locations each year in enclosed malls and non-traditional sites such as universities, hospitals, airports, train stations, etc. Ideally, Wetzel’s Pretzels targets kiosk space in the 200 to 300 square foot range or high traffic inline units in the 400 to 900 square foot range.
