Blue Fox Entertainment’s introduction of Cinema Cellar marks a new chapter for the Criterion Collection’s retail presence in Toronto, bringing together specialty film merchandise, home entertainment and the legacy of one of a respected brand. The initiative follows Blue Fox Entertainment’s takeover and rebranding of the Criterion Collection’s retail operations, providing an opportunity to maintain a dedicated destination for film enthusiasts and collectors. The Cinema Cellar opened at 129 John St., steps from TIFF Lightbox and Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto’s Entertainment District, during the Toronto International Film Festival in mid-September, and experienced heavy traffic. In mid-October, the 800 square foot Cinema Cellar will reopen with a wide selection of Blu-rays, DVDs and related specialty merchandise. Dave Hudakoc, president of Blue Fox Entertainment Canada notes that the company is presently contemplating expansion strategies, likely starting with pop-ups in other markets. “We could expedite this if we see similar traffic levels when we reopen,” he added. Industry veterans Hudakoc, Ian Goggins, and Michael Baker launched Blue Fox Entertainment Canada at TIFF 2024 with the mission to bring the best of cinema to theatres and homes across Canada and the U.S.
